Financial Controller

Baywell Search are delighted to be partnering this fantastic independent business in Dartford.  An award winning,  local success story who require a strong Financial Controller to support the senior leadership team.  The business has a global reach with a strong network to deliver their logistic services.

The Financial Controller will be instrumental in driving change, implementing more robust controls and procedures, and providing financial advice to the Directors from both a commercial and statutory perspective.

In terms of the day to day, this is a very hands on role, and the Financial Controller will have responsibility for the following;

  • Prepare monthly management accounts for review by Directors to include;
  • Calculation of month end accruals and prepayments
  • Calculation of depreciation charges and maintaining the fixed asset register
  • Calculation and posting of monthly journals
  • Reconciliation / review of control accounts
  • Balance sheet reconciliation
  • Investigation of actual / budget variances & production of commentary
  • Reconciliation of bank accounts
  • Purchase Ledger processing in multiple currencies
  • Process weekly and monthly payroll for 65 staff and returns to HMRC
  • Manage year-end procedures
  • Preparation of draft statutory accounts
  • VAT returns, ensuring accurate and timely submission
  • Management of cashflow
  • Assistance with preparation of the annual budget
  • Oversee Sales Ledger
  • Banking – ensure payments are processed, reconcile bank account and investigate any outstanding items (multi-currency)
  • Liaise with external auditors
  • Prepare ad hoc financial reports for the Directors

In order to apply candidates should demonstrate the following;

  • Formally qualified with a recognised Accountancy qualification (ACCA/ACA/CIMA)
  • Autonomy, able to confidently prepare accounts independently
  • Working knowledge of Sage 50 and be able to prepare Payroll
  • Strong communication and organisation skills
  • Self-motivated, pro-active, able to interact confidently at all levels
  • Analytical
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
  • A good listener, problem solver and confident decision maker
  • Strong team player with a flexible and enthusiastic approach to work

As this role will be the most senior in the Finance team of two, it is anticipated that the incoming Financial Controller will be able to embrace the role with confidence, and provide fantastic support to the Directors from a financial perspective.  This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of a growing company and enjoy putting your own stamp on the function.
