This highly commercial role will not only partner the senior operational leads by using your financial acumen to guide business decisions but will also provide regular reporting coupled with more traditional accounting activities.  The Commercial Analyst reports to and works closely with the Finance Director of this fast-paced business.

The largest percentage of the work of the Commercial Analyst will be on business partnering activities surrounding pricing, margin, cost and profitability analysis as well as monthly reporting.  Working with large data sets, the Commercial Analyst will extract, manipulate and present the data to the leadership team.

Detailed duties of the Commercial Analyst include;

  • Cost centre analysis and variance analysis, highlighting risk/opportunity/new ideas to key stakeholders
  • KPI reporting with monthly presentation
  • Interpreting and presenting financial information to non-finance staff, providing a clear picture of the companies financial health
  • Extract, manipulate and drill down into data to analyse budgets vs spent, costs and profitability
  • Margin analysis, looking to maximise opportunity and ensuring expected level of profitability are achieved
  • Adhoc analysis and costing of new business opportunities, maximising existing
  • Management accounting including assisting with budget preparation and ongoing monthly management
  • Review monthly balance sheet reconciliations, spotting and analysing anomalies, making recommendations
  • Assisting with Profit and Loss, Balance Sheet and Cashflow reporting
  • Occasional assistance with financial accounting activities including VAT, statutory reporting

The successful candidate;

  • Studying towards CIMA/ACCA (full study support offered) or qualified
  • A strong grounding in financial control/management accounts who has moved into a role where the focus has been as a Finance Analyst or Finance Business Partner
  • Exceptional analysis experience, able to dive into the detail of large data sets from different sources, spot emerging trends of risk or opportunity
  • Advanced Excel – as a minimum pivot tables, lookups, indexmatch, graphs and ideally PowerBI
  • The confidence to work with stakeholders of all levels, the gravitas to challenge assumptions and offer sound information based on your analysis
  • Demonstrable experience of working in a fast paced, changing environment in rapidly expanding business.  Able to juggle multiple, competing priorities
