Niche business in Rochester are looking for an Accounts Accountant to cover a maternity, on a one year fixed term contract basis.  It’s a great business, who operate on a global scale to provide their specialist freight services.  The Accounts Assistant will have responsibility for Sales Ledger, Purchase Ledger, General Ledger, and preparing the accounts to Trial Balance stage.

Detailed duties of the Accounts Assistant include;

  • Sales Ledger activities, raising approx. 200 sales invoices per week
  • Ensuring the correct country currency and VAT treatment is applied
  • Regular reporting to customers and cargo airlines
  • Responding to statement requests
  • Data manipulation on Excel with large volumes of data
  • Dealing with queries (customers could be anywhere in the world) quickly and effectively
  • Checking the detail of contracts
  • Assisting the Customer Service division with billing queries
  • Reconcile purchase ledger against supplier statement
  • Purchase Ledger processing, getting invoices ready for payment
  • Preparing journals
  • Processing International payments
  • Assisting preparation of month end accruals and prepayments
  • VAT returns
  • Check live feed from bank, ensure transactions allocated correctly and checking balance against statement
  • Intercompany transactions
  • Assisting with Month-end reports process
  • Weekly reporting
  • Supporting month end tasks
  • Adhoc customer analysis and providing commentary on trends
  • Supporting Finance Manager with adhoc additional accounting activities

In order to be successful in the role, the Assistant Accountant requires a clear understanding of debits/credits and the fundamentals of double entry bookkeeping.  These principles will have been applied in a similar role encompassing both sides of the ledger.

Owing to the complex nature of this international business, the successful Accounts Assistant will be a forward thinking individual who can think on their feet, be dynamic in attitude, and proactive to take ownership of their work.  As a strong communicator the Accounts Assistant will be able to keep up with fast paced communications by email and take initiative when resolving queries.

Offered on a 1 year fixed term contract, 25 days holiday are included as well as ample free parking.
