Will you make a change?

Will you make a change?

 11 Jan 2019

Hello 2019 – where did that time off go?!  Hopefully you managed to get a break, no matter how short.  Its often over the festive period when catching up with friends and family when we have a bit of time to draw breath and reflect on our situation.  Especially making plans for the incoming year, analysing what we liked/disliked about the previous year and what we want to do to improve our situation.

The work situation is usually one of the first items to get analysed, up there with diet and alcohol consumption I am sure!  The majority of us spend more time at work than we do on anything else - it’s a massive part of our lives.

So, ask yourself this; Are you happy with where you are in your career?  Where do you want to get to?  What is missing in order for you to achieve your objectives?

Before you do anything, explore whether you can you get what you need from your current role.

If there are skill/knowledge gaps then speak to your line manager and see what can be done to address these.  If this has been exhausted, then it’s time to dust off the interview suit and get talking to a reputable recruiter.

Things you can do in preparation include;

  • Update your CV
  • Have you got a LinkedIn profile?  If not, get one – its very easy to set up and showcase your talent
  • Make sure your photo is up to date and relevant – remember its for professional networking, not dating
  • Think about what is important in your job search, how can the next move help you get to where you want to be?
  • Look at your diary and consider your availability for interviews.  There is no point starting off a recruitment process and going to ground as its Year End and you are too busy for anything else or going off on a lovely long holiday!

Most importantly, put the positive intention out there of what you want and be excited as to what’s around the corner.  Manifest your desires, look after you – you and your happiness should be your priority.

Wishing you a prosperous, happy and health 2019.
